With the recently concluded FIFA World Cup and the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup that took place this year, users’ interest in sports is growing. More than 2 billion interactions (likes, comments, and shares) during the recently finished ICC T20 World Cup were recorded on Instagram Reels produced in India. Users in India produced more than a million reels related to the ICC T20 World Cup. The top three Indian cricketers to receive the most mentions on Indian reels were Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya.
Reels creators have also gotten fond of musician Shubh due to the musician’s hashtag’s explosive growth in popularity in 2022. Users expressed interest in films and television shows including Bhediya, Family Guy, Ek Villain Returns, Naagin 6, Vikram, Mismatches Season 2, and Pathaan on the platform, in addition to cricketers and singers.
15 of the top 20 tracks used on Instagram Reels globally came from Indian artists. This includes songs like “Srivalli” by Javed Ali and “Baarish Main Tum” by Neha Kakkar. Popular songs included “Jhoom” by Ali Zafar, “Gypsy” by G.D. Kaur, “KGF 2 Theme Song,” and “Kesariya” by Pritam, Arijit Singh, and Amitabh Bhattacharya. The selection included both classic audio like “Kacha Badam” and retro music like “Tumsa Koi Pyaara.”
