Villarreal vs Barcelona Highlights: Pedri, Robert Lewandowski come to rescue, Barcelona extend 11-POINT Lead in La Liga Table with Villareal win – Check Highlights

Three minutes into the game, Pedri’s magnificent through ball to an open Robert Lewandowski gave Barcelona a huge opportunity, but the Pole took too long to take a shot, and Pepe Reina saved it with a crucial one-on-one save. Jules Kounde won the ball in the final third, and the Catalans moved it very quickly into the box where Pedri and Lewandowski made a beautiful one-two and Pedri found the back of the net. The Blaugrana continued to move the ball quickly between the lines and press high up the pitch to create dangerous chances.

Villarreal gained control of the game and began to appear dangerous after Barcelona was unable to maintain the level of dominance it had shown for the first 25 minutes. A poor ball from Pedri prompted a counterattack, and AJ Morales found himself one on one with Marc-André ter Stegen. However, he dragged his shot wide off the side netting and squandered a huge opportunity to equalise before halftime.

When the home team found openings inside the Barça defence, their assaults were thwarted by Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen, who were dominant at the back, as Villarreal were unable to apply sustained pressure and their players were frequently caught in offside positions.

But as the game entered its last 15 minutes, the hosts were still in contention, and Barça needed a second goal to end it. They consistently found themselves in risky situations when on the break, but they squandered those chances by making poor choices in the final third. Fortunately, Samuel Chukwueze’s 90th-minute equaliser was disallowed because of an offside in the buildup.

The 35th minute saw Villareal lose midfielder Francis Coquelin to what appeared to be a serious knee injury. Despite having more control, the visitors had the better opportunities, with Lewandowski and Raphinha both coming close to extending the advantage. With the victory, Barca is in first place with 56 points after 21 games, while Villareal is in eighth place with 31 points, seven points behind Atletico Madrid in the race for the fourth Champions League spot in La Liga.
