‘Iron Mike’ welcomed the famous comedy duo Cheech and Chong for an episode. And when they asked him which would he rather pick, the UFC or boxing, Tyson said, “Always boxing… because I was making massive money and I would never have made that in the UFC.”

Tyson then joked and said, “And if he [my opponent] steps on my feet, I might tap out.” Therefore, showing that he had no interest in getting into the octagon.

Why did Mike Tyson say he would not make money in the UFC?

The comments from Tyson will not surprise anyone. The former world champion made millions from his boxing career. From lucrative sponsorships to insane fight purses, ‘Iron Mike’ lived a luxurious lifestyle. So why wouldn’t Mike Tyson make the same money from the UFC?

This is a debate that has gone on for a while now. Many fighters have spoken up against the lower pay for fighters in the UFC. While the company is valued at more than $4 billion, many of the biggest names in the UFC have shown their displeasure at the kind of money they get.

And despite fighters like Conor McGregor becoming one of the richest athletes in the world, the majority of his wealth came from outside the UFC. So, it is no surprise that Tyson made the reference to the UFC fighter pay issue.

Although that would not be the only reason, it would definitely be one of the reasons why Mike Tyson would always pick boxing over the UFC. What do you make of Mike Tyson’s comments?
