Valorant’s 4.01 patch released on January 19 is allowing users to create their own muted word list. Valorant now has an AI that filters out offensive language, but this new feature will allow players to select the phrases they don’t want to see in the game. You can now add a term or phrase that you don’t want to see in your game to your preferences. In essence, you can have slurs or poisonous language that you don’t want to see in conversation automatically filtered. Not only will this allow you to avoid particular keywords in your personal chat, but it will also assist developer Riot in improving its own list by pooling the most censored language. You can only entirely mute a player’s text chat right now. The new tool may assist you in avoiding the nuclear option, allowing for a more personalized experience. It will also allow you to protect yourself based on your preferences rather than Riot’s worldwide watchlists.
Riot intends to use player muted word lists to “make the chat less toxic by comparing them across locations and using the data we collect to better our own detections of bad phrases,” according to the company. It noticed, for example, that its own filters would catch “Riot,” but not “R1ot” or “R!ot.”
