Medvedev won his maiden Grand Slam tournament at the US Open in 2021 and enters the year-end Grand Slam this year as the World No.1. He has shown good form in 2022. He started the year with a runner-up finish at the Australian Open after losing the final in a nail-biting five sets against Rafael Nadal. Just ahead of the clay court season he took sometime away from the sport by undergoing a hernia surgery. He wasn’t at his best in the French Open, where he was ousted in the fourth round. However he improved his form by finishing as runner-up at Halle Open and Libema Open. He won his first title this year at Los Cabos Open and just before the US Open made a semifinal finish at the Cincinnati Masters. He is now eyeing title defence at the US Open and is a strong contender for the title.
