Alcaraz beat Cilic Highlights: It seems every time 19-year-old takes the court these days, he’s making history. Last year, right here in Flushing Meadows, the Spaniard became the youngest US Open quarterfinalist in the Open Era. He won fifth-set tiebreak against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

This in a year that also saw him become the youngest ATP titlist in more than a decade and the youngest player to earn more than 30 tour-level victories in nearly 30 years, among other records.

On Labor Day at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the No. 3 seed became youngest man to reach back-to-back US Open quarterfinals since Aussies Lew Hoad and Ken Rosewall in 1952 and 1953.

Alcaraz registered 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 winner in a late-night/early-morning thriller over 2014 titlist Marin Cilic of Croatia.

With a 2:23 a.m. conclusion, the three-hour, 53-minute marathon fell just minutes shy of the latest finish in US Open history (2:26 a.m.).

It marked Alcaraz’s third straight victory over the 15th seed in 2022, having also prevailed in Miami and Cincinnati. He is now the highest seed remaining player in the men’s draw.
