Max Verstappen F1 Record – Most Race WIN in a SEASON: Verstappen appeared to be headed for an easy victory at the Circuit of The Americas after taking the lead early on and avoiding the drama behind when Carlos Sainz and George Russell collided at Turn 1. Verstappen handled repeated Safety Car restarts while keeping his pace under control.

However, a sluggish last pit stop allowed Hamilton and the recuperating Charles Leclerc to go past the Red Bull driver. And the reigning world champion passed both of them with only six laps left in the race.

Mercedes’ wait for a 2022 victory continues despite Hamilton’s valiant attempts, and Leclerc saved a podium finish for Ferrari as the Italian team mathematically dropped out of contention for the constructors’ crown.

Leclerc rose from P12 on the grid after his power unit adjustments thanks to a quick stop under the early Safety Car, which was deployed as a result of Valtteri Bottas’s accident into the gravel. Perez finished fourth following his own engine penalty.

Russell finished in fifth place after picking up a five-second time penalty for his collision with Sainz. He pitted late to record the fastest lap on soft tyres after maintaining a comfortable lead over Lando Norris of McLaren, who finished in sixth.

After suffering an engine penalty and a dramatic mid-race accident with Lance Stroll that temporarily sent him flying, Fernando Alonso recovered to finish in seventh place, ahead of Sebastian Vettel of Aston Martin and Kevin Magnussen of the one-stopping Haas.

Like Verstappen, Vettel’s efforts were dented by a slow final stop and, having initially held a strong points position, he had to fight his way back to eighth, passing Magnussen at the final corner on the final lap – earning the ‘Driver of the Day’ award in the process.

AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda, who started at the back of the grid after an engine penalty, also used the drama to his advantage to take a point in 10th, narrowly denying Alpine’s Esteban Ocon (who started from the pits), Williams’ Alex Albon and Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu.
