Premier League: Manchester United midfielder Fred triggered the 1-year extension clause in his contract last year. However, he has admitted that he is still unsure about his time at the club. After the arrival of Erik Ten Hag, Fred has seen less playing time. However, he has expressed that he wants to help the team and ‘be important’ to the team. With that intention, he will discuss with his family and manager Ten Hag about his future at Man United.
Talking after their defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup final, he said he is unsure about his future at the club. He said, “I still don’t know, I have to talk with my family, I still have one year left in my contract here. Now it’s holidays’ time and a good opportunity to rest.”
He added that he will have to talk to his family and coach before he makes a decision. He added, “I’ll talk to my staff, to the club and see what is everyone’s decision. I do have to talk with Ten Hag as well, he’s the manager and the conversation has to involve everyone. We have to see how next season will plan out. I want to be important, I want to help the team, so we’ll see. But I’ve always been and still am very happy at Manchester United.”
Ten Hag informed in December that Man United had triggered the 1-year extension in Fred’s contract. This means that his contract now expires next year at the end of the season. He still has 1 year left in his contract. The coach started him during the FA Cup final which they lost. Even though the result was unsatisfactory, he said, “Of course I always want to be playing, to be helping my team and gladly I started and I think we played well.”

Fred joined the Red Devils in June 2018 from Shakhtar Donetsk on a transfer fee of £52 million. He has contributed to the team since his arrival. However, he has not seen a regular starting time. Now, with interests coming from Fulham, Wolves, and Everton, he could choose to leave the club this transfer window.
This season, Fred started in only 12 Premier League matches. He showed some promise at the start of the season. However, his form declined and even though Ten Hag started him during the FA Cup, Fred did not deliver.
