India’s celebrated athlete Murali Sreeshankar, a long jumper and Asian Games silver medalist, is notably absent from the Paris Olympics. Fans are wondering why he is not participating in the prestigious event.

Why is Murali Sreeshankar not playing in Olympics 2024?

Sreeshankar suffered an injury on April 8, 2024, during his practice, which ruled him out of the Paris Olympics. The Indian long jumper sustained an injury to his knee.

“All my life, l have had the courage to look at a setback in the eye, accept situations I can’t change and work hard at dictating the outcomes of those I can. Unfortunately, in what feels like a nightmare, but is a reality, my Paris Olympic Games dream is over,” Sreeshankar wrote on his Instagram handle.

After breaking the men’s long jump Olympic qualifying standard of 8.27 meters at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand, last year, Sreeshankar secured a quota for Paris 2024. He won silver at the meet with a jump of 8.37 meters.

Who is India’s athlete in long jump?

Jeswin Aldrin was India’s representative in the long jump event. However, he did not qualify for the final, as he exited in the qualification round, finishing 13th in his heat.
