Riding on the back of stellar performances over the last two years in the Ranji Trophy and domestic circuit, Sarfaraz Khan reaped the reward on Tuesday. Khan was awarded the Madhavrao Scindia award for being the highest run-getter in Ranji Trophy 2021-22 at the BCCI Awards 2024.

On the other hand, Sarfaraz Khan’s wait to make his Test debut has further increased after he did not find a spot in the squad for the IND vs ENG Tests. Rajat Patidar, on the other hand, was picked in the squad for the first two Tests.

On the South Africa tour with India A, Sarfaraz Khan scored 68 against South Africa A. Against England Lions, he hit 96 and 55. But it was Ranji Trophy where he scored tons of runs. He scored 982 runs in 2022 and 556 runs in just nine innings the next season. In fact, in 44 first-class matches, Sarfaraz Khan has averaged 68.20 including 13 centuries. However, it’s clearly not enough to impress the selectors.

While presenting the award, the host for the show Harsha Bhogle made a passing comment. He mentioned Sarfaraz’s younger brother, Musheer Khan is currently in South Africa playing for India in the U19 World Cup.
