When Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson is in full flow, he is perhaps the most elegant batsman anyone can think of. On Sunday, during RR’s first match of the IPL 2024 season, his elegance was at full display as he brought up his 21st fifty in the tournament in only 33 deliveries. But that’s not where he ended. He scored 82 eventually, hitting six sixes and three fours in 52 deliveries, taking RR to 193/4 in 20 overs.
Sanju Samson in Top Order for RR vs LSG
Primarily a middle-order batsman, Sanju promoted himself in the batting order to accommodate Riyan Parag at No. 4. This move, despite him being in tough competition for a slot in the T20 World Cup squad. Nonetheless, the skipper made a strong statement with a fifty in the first match itself.
In fact, the highlight of his innings was that he did not look in a hurry to score runs, and took unecessary risks, after RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler returned to the hut, without much contributions. Also, if that’s not enough, he has been scoring fifties in RR’s season openers since 2020.
