Pakistan’s cricket team’s and skipper Babar Azam’s worst nightmare has just come true as an unheralded USA team has beaten them in the T20 World Cup fixture on Thursday. Monank Patel emerged the hero for the hosts, who won a close battle in the super over as the scores for both the teams were tied at 159 after the end of 40 overs.
PAK vs USA, Babar Azam Throws Spinners Under the Bus
After the embarrassing loss in the PAK vs USA match, Babar Azam blamed the spinners for the not getting enough wickets in the middle-overs. Shadab Khan returned with figures of 0/27 in his four overs, while Iftikhar Ahmed gave away 10 runs in the only over he bowled. Not just that, the captain also spoke about the failure of the top-order.
“In the first 6 overs with the bat, we didn’t capitalize properly. We built some momentum after that but lost back-to-back wickets. In the middle overs, as a batsman, you have to step up and build a partnership. There was a little bit of moisture on the pitch (early on), and it was a bit two-paced, but this is not an excuse. As a professional, you need to assess the conditions. In the first six overs, I didn’t capitalize properly,” Babar said.

“We weren’t up to the mark with the ball in the first six overs. As usual, we aren’t taking wickets in the first 6 overs and then in the middle, your spinner is not taking wickets, so this cost us. In the end, we came back but couldn’t finish well,” he concluded.
Monank Patel Leads from the Front
On the other hand, Monank Patel was clinical on the day and made sure he took his team close to the target with 38-ball 50. He knew they could win the match if they restricted Pakistan under 160. “Winning the toss and the way we bowled in the first 6 overs, we took wickets and kept them quiet… We knew we were in the game with 160 to chase, just needed a partnership.”
