Another Border Gavaskar Trophy, another controversy. And this time it is KL Rahul who suffers. The India Cricket Team opener was left shell-shocked after the umpire had to reverse the decision despite having no clear and sufficient evidence of a dismissal. The lack of a poor viewing angle and no conclusive proof even saw the outrage of the Indian fans on social media.
KL Rahul was the only batter who looked in a bit of decent touch in the IND vs AUS 1st Test. But the veteran batter too had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 26 runs. It was Mitchell Starc who dispatched the opener but the controversy regarding the dismissal continues.
What exactly happened?
KL Rahul opted to play a forward defensive shot. The ball apparently nipped past the blade of the bad and went to the keeper. Starc called for the wicket but the umpire remained unmoved. After a bit of dilly dally, Australia reviewed the decision which ultimately went in their favor.
The camera angle couldn’t properly show whether the ball made any contact with the bat or not. In such a scenario, the third umpire went for the Snicko meter. Of course, there was a noise, which seemingly looked as KL Rahul’s bat hit his pads. The Snicko meter showed a spike and the umpire without any conclusive evidence had to rule it as a wicket.
KL Rahul was left shattered and bewildered at the decision. He then went to have a word with the umpire where he claimed it was in fact his bat that had hit his pads and not the ball.
