Initially, it seemed as though Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis would square off after the South African defeated Robert Whittaker and the two engaged in an in-cage brawl. The UFC was forced to scramble to find a way to keep the Kiwi champion on the Australian-bound UFC 293 programme when Du Plessis disclosed that he was injured, with Strickland being the front-runner.
Fans were anticipating official confirmation that Israel Adesanya will be taking on Sean Strickland as UFC 293’s September 9th date got nearer. The announcement, however, was reportedly delayed because the American was having trouble with his visa.
Fans commented on the post with comments that said “ This press conference is going to start WW3” while someone else wrote, “Hopefully Sean gets his fun out in a meaningless press conference cuz he won’t be having fun in that octagon”.
Following rumours that the match was progressing favourably, Spinnin Backfist claimed that Adesanya vs. Strickland was getting close to being official. They claim that an official confirmation might occur very soon, albeit some minor elements still need to be worked out.
