UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov is often seen training with his teammates. Despite the fact the former UFC lightweight champion retired from MMA completely, many consider he might return for one last showdown. Earlier this month, another UFC Hall of Famer George St-Pierre aka GSP, will participate in the UFC Fight Pass Invitational no-gi jiu-jitsu.
Following this announcement, many fans consider Khabib Nurmagomedov to return opposite GSP. However, MMA coach Javier Mendez recently said he doesn’t look for Khabib’s return despite his regular training sessions.
During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Mendez mentioned why Khabib continues to train his grappling. He clearly said Khabib always takes any challenges seriously, and people have seen it timely how it results.
“It’s not like he doesn’t grapple. He grapples all the time. So, he hasn’t stopped training, he just doesn’t train to fight. But he still does his cardio, he still grapples with the guys, because he always tells me, ‘How are the guys going to get ready for my level if they never know my level?’ [H/T MMA Junkie]
He added that Khabib continues to train with his guys to make them the very best. The Eagle’s grappling technique and training had made his other teammates strong at the ground game, which has been a problem for the opposition
Javier Mendez discloses why Khabib Nurmagomedov won’t come out of retirement
In 2020, Khabib Nurmagomedov competed in his last match in the UFC opposite Justin Gaethje. Following his successful title defense, he announced his retirement immediately and relinquished the UFC lightweight title.
Javier Mendez recently pointed out Khabib’s retirement and why he won’t come back. He added, “I don’t know if Khabib would do the competition because he stated that his family is what it’s all about. More devoted time for the family and knowing him, any challenge is a work. So he’s going to have to stay focused on one particular thing.”
It’s been 3 years since the ‘Eagle’ retired from UFC. His UFC career was just extraordinary with an undefeated record of 29-0, which will continue to inspire many other young fighters. However, the current scenario for Nurmagomedov vs GSP is dropped but anything could happen until Nurmagomedov changes his mind.
