Shavkat Rakhmonov was seen by Kelvin Gastelum as his path to UFC title contention. When he learned that the victor of “The Ultimate Fighter 17” was regaining his 170-pound weight, Rakhmonov first called Gastelum out. The UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was forced to the limit by Gastelum, who did not back down from a fight.

Rakhmonov has so far made an impression in the octagon and is widely regarded as a future champion. Gastelum too views him as the competitor to beat in his pursuit of the title after he most recently choked out Geoff Neal in a Fight of the Night effort at UFC 285 in March.
When Gastelum last contested at welterweight, it was in 2016 at UFC 200, when he won by unanimous decision against Johnny Hendricks, the former champion.
Shavkat Rakhmonov has never lost in his professional career. Additionally, every victory was obtained quickly. He won the M-1 Global League championship in 2019 and successfully defended it the following year before joining the UFC to continue his winning streak. Shavkat has now racked up five early victories in the most competitive league in the world. He defeated Geoffrey Neal in his most recent match, moving him up to sixth place in the rankings for the welterweight division.

Gastelum was yet scheduled for another fight against Shavkat Rakhmonov in September, but he had to pull himself out of the fight, due to an injury he received as per his post on Twitter. Further details are yet to be received.
