Cejudo (16-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC), a former two-division UFC champion, revealed on Thursday that he would not be competing against Marlon Vera (22-8-1 MMA, 14-7 UFC) at UFC 292. On August 19, the event with the two title fights takes place at TD Garden in Boston, due to an injury on his right shoulder.

Henry Cejudo made this announcement through his Instagram account, as he talked about his issue in the video. He has also narrated the issue in his caption which reads, “ Some important news regarding my future… I’m unfortunately not going to be able to compete on August 19 at UFC. I got an MRI on my right shoulder that revealed a tear that requires 6-8 weeks of rehab”.

I stretched it out as far as I could because I love that Chito matchup, but between my shoulder and my baby expected on October 25, it’s the best decision for me and my family to not fight in August.

Nothing changes with my future goals, I want my title back, When I’m back to 100 per cent, you’ll see me in the Octagon again. But until then, I need to heal, I hope the UFC can find a replacement to fight Chito so he could stay on the card, I would’ve loved to fight him in Boston on the 15-year anniversary of my goal medal. But I’ll be back”.

In the main event of UFC 288’s bantamweight championship fight, Cejudo, who had been out of the sport for three years, lost by split decision to Aljamain Sterling.

Vera may or may not continue on the card to take on a different foe at this moment.

It would have been Vera’s second appearance in 2023 and another chance to face a former UFC champion in the contest versus Cejudo. “Chito” has faced three former champions; he defeated Frankie Edgar and Dominick Cruz but lost to Jose Aldo on a unanimous decision.

Vera doesn’t yet sure what he’ll do as a result of not having a challenger for August, but he has an idea.

Vera tweeted, “Yan step up,” addressing Petr Yan, another previous champion.

Vera will be aiming to forget his March split decision loss to Cory Sandhagen, which ended a four-fight winning streak, whether or not he stays on the pay-per-view programme in Boston.
