Charles Oliveira’s performance at UFC 289 received high acclaim from Michael Chandler, who hopes to face the former champion once more.
Chandler (23-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC) has experience sparring with Oliveira (34-9 MMA, 22-9 UFC) after their vacant lightweight title match at UFC 262. That evening, Oliveira knocked off Chandler in the second round to win the title.

Despite that outcome, Chandler has kept tabs on his former rival and recently praised Oliveira for his performance in the co-main event of UFC 289, when he stopped Beneil Dariush in the first round.

Calling him an “absolute savage” Michael said that when Charles and Oliveira were scheduled to fight against one another. Dariush was on a long win streak, while Oliveira had a ton of fire to fight for the title. Charles was the show of the event shining on top against his opponent in the brightest lights. Charles is scheduled to fight next against Islam Makhachev, but if he continues to fight the way he fought against Dariush on Saturday night in UFC 289, no one can stop him from bouncing back to claim the title.
Chandler was totally impressed by the fight between Oliveira and Dariush. Dariush had maintained a continuous streak of eight fight wins and was promised a fight for the title if he had emerged victorious against Oliveira. Oliveira made no hesitation to crush down Dariush’s dream and put himself in a position to earn another title shot.
Chandler dreams of the day when he can take Oliveira on once more. Although the match hasn’t been officially announced, it’s expected that Chandler will battle “The Notorious” in the cage later this year after filming “The Ultimate Fighter Season 31” alongside Conor McGregor as a coach on the long-running reality series.
