UFC: Why is Paulo Costa pointing the finger at the UFC for the Robert Whittaker match?
It seemed that Whittaker and Costa would be in action at UFC 284, which would take place at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. However, when ESPN’s Brett Okamoto revealed the match would not be held, many fans were rather shocked. Subsequently, once the news had spread, Costa expressed his regret to Whittaker for canceling the match.
Not to forget that the Brazilian fighter claimed not to have signed the fight’s contract on several occasions, which many took to be a joke considering his reputation. It turned out to be accurate, and he went on to say that the UFC’s poor negotiating abilities are the reason why bouts like this don’t take place. Costa also acknowledged a comment made by a fan who said the following.
If you follow Paulo you would know he was telling us the fight was never signed while the UFC and their media were saying they would fight. It’s a tactic the UFC have done forever to add pressure to the fighters to sign the deal. I’m so glad Paulo stuck to his guns. ♥️♥️#TheMan https://t.co/RvZXy7K20H
