Khabib: UFC Legend Chael Sonnen Cautions Jon Jones on Retirement Plans

As Jon Jones prepares to defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic, he received a warning from UFC legend Chael Sonnen. Sonnen shared his thoughts during a recent video on his YouTube channel, advising Jones against retirement.

Speculation about Jones‘ retirement gained momentum when he was seen training with Brazilian jiu-jitsu prodigy Gordon Ryan. Ryan initially posted on Instagram, suggesting that UFC 295 would be Jones’ final fight, although the post was later removed.

These developments align with ongoing rumors that Jones intends to retire if he emerges victorious against Miocic in their upcoming bout in New York City. Despite building some of the greatest fighting careers in history, figures like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Floyd Mayweather, and Mike Tyson continue to face criticism from certain segments of the combat sports community. Jon Jones will finds himself in a similar situation, sharing this common experience with these legends.

In a recent video, he talked about Jones’ retirement, advising him against retiring prematurely. Sonnen also highlighted the consequences if ‘Bones’ were to persist with his choice.

He stated: “And there’s going to be talks that Jon left because he was scared of the next era of fighters. There’s never been a great champion in history and that includes boxing to leave and then not have people say that. They tried to do it with Floyd Klitschko went through it, Tyson through it, ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard went through it.. Khabib went through it with Charles Oliveira.“

Sonnen discussed the criticism directed at Khabib Nurmagomedov, Jon Jones, and Floyd Mayweather throughout their careers. He thinks that if Jones retires too early, he won’t be able to quiet his critics.
