UFC Vegas 73: Preview, Prediction and Odds for Edmen Shahbayzan vs Anthony Hernandez

Edmen Shahbazyan, 23, is considered one of the top prospects in the UFC with a 12-3 record. He is an outstanding striker who has won 83% of his fights by knockout. His opponent Anthony Hernandez, nicknamed “Fluffy”, has a 10-2 record and is predominantly a grappler, winning 70% of his bouts by submission.

In this matchup, Shahbazyan will likely try to keep the fight standing so he can utilize his superior striking. However, Hernandez will aim to take the fight to the ground where he has the advantage. With an average of 6.49 takedowns per 15 minutes, Hernandez has the ability to get Shahbazyan down and could either finish him with a submission or win by controlling him on the ground.

While Shahbazyan is the narrow betting favorite at +200, Hernandez’s grappling skills and ability to dictate where the fight takes place makes him my pick to win at -260. He has the tools to neutralize Shahbazyan’s striking and come away victorious, whether by stoppage or decision.

This co-main event should be an intriguing battle between two prospects at different stages of their development. Edmen Shahbazyan is the bright young striker, while Anthony Hernandez is the grizzled veteran with a dangerous ground game. Fight fans are in for a treat when these two collide this Saturday at UFC Vegas 73.
