In February, a highly anticipated UFC flyweight contender bout between Brandon Moreno and Amir Albazi will take place over five rounds.
A fight against Albazi (17-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC), the former multiple 125-pound champion Moreno (21-7-2 MMA, 9-3-2 UFC), told MMA Junkie earlier this week that it was the “logical” next step for his career. Now, that fight has materialized as the co-main event for UFC Fight Night on February 24, which is anticipated to take place in Mexico City.

Although there has been no official announcement of the event in Mexico, two individuals with knowledge of the matter informed MMA Junkie that the bout had been signed after an original report from ESPN Deportes. The individuals asked to remain anonymous.
Brandon Moreno, who is currently ranked third in the flyweight class by USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie, recently participated in the UFC 290 tournament in July, when he was defeated by Alexandre Pantoja via unanimous decision as a contender for Fight of the Year. The encounter left Moreno, 29, with a fractured hand, but he is fully recovered and intends to use Albazi as a springboard for another go at the gold.
But facing the No. 7-ranked Albazi, who has been unstoppable since making his octagon debut in July 2020, won’t be an easy assignment. The 30-year-old recently defeated Kai Kara-France in a close split decision at UFC on ESPN 46, earning him his biggest victory to date.
The promotion’s sixth event in Mexico City, UFC Fight Night on February 24, will be its first since September 2019. Arena Ciudad de México is probably where the card will take place. Plans for broadcasting are currently unknown.
