UFC injuries: Corey Hill at UFC Fight Night 16

Corey Hill, the slender and likable TUF fighter from season five, suffered a severe leg injury when competing against Dale Hartt at UFC Fight Night 16 in 2008. Early in the second round, Hartt blocked a leg kick from Hill, which broke the 6’4″ Miletich-trained fighter’s shin.

Hill’s tibia and fibula broke. His leg twisted in improper ways, causing him to collapse to the ground in anguish, and the fight was immediately stopped.

Anderson Silva at UFC 168

When Weidman took on Anderson Silva in late 2013, the legendary fighter, still in his prime, was making his first defense of the UFC middleweight championship. When Weidman ousted Silva six months prior, he astounded the mixed martial arts community.

In the second round of the fight, Silva attempted to strike with one of his signature kicks, but Weidman skillfully blocked it, stopping Spider in his tracks while his leg continued to go forward despite his foot having stopped. As a result, the Brazilian’s shin was cleanly broken, and the sight of his leg folding to the side terrified spectators everywhere.

Jon Jones at UFC 159

In 2013, Sonnen was a well-respected 36-year-old journeyman, and Jones was a 25-year-old beast. He was destroyed by The Bones in the opening round, winning via TKO. Jones sustained this brutal wound while defending against a takedown attempt from Chael Sonnen. He dislocated his toe when he rolled over, ripping the flesh off it.

He gave a Joe Rogan interview from a stool while medical personnel worked on him when the depth of the damage became apparent. In the end, Jones was more concerned about how the injury would affect his vacation plans than how much pain it inflicted. After this, he continued, “I was going to go to Jamaica. That won’t happen, I tell you.”

Conor McGregor at UFC 264

The opening round of the former division champion’s rematch with former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 resulted in fracturing his left tibia and fibula. Although the cause of the break is still unknown, McGregor’s leg broke away in the last seconds of the first round as he and Poirier traded crosses. The Notorious has undergone significant rehabilitation after the break and appears to be on track to make a comeback in the ring in 2019.
