At UFC 292 in August, Sean O’Malley defeated Aljamain Sterling, formally assuming the title of bantamweight world champion. Although the information is currently confirmed, O’Malley stated in a Joe Rogan episode that he was prepared to compete in December, but the UFC had already scheduled its fights for the pay-per-view. Now as per reports Suga will face Marlon at UFC 299.
No PPV events have been formally announced by UFC for the upcoming year. There is only one event scheduled on January 13th: a Fight Night card. Fans should expect to see UFC 297 later that month, UFC 298 in mid-February, and UFC 299 in early March if the schedule is anything like it has been in the past. Although O’Malley hinted that he will most likely be fighting before UFC 300, the company is undoubtedly preparing for the huge showpiece event.
The Only Loss In UFC For Sean O’Malley
August 2020 saw “Suga” Sean O’Malley take on Marlon “Chito” Vera at UFC 252. Despite the thrilling nature of the bout and their impressive striking show, Sean O’Malley’s situation quickly deteriorated.
Following Marlon Vera’s contact with the already-worn leg, O’Malley’s leg went out. O’Malley fell to the ground instantly as a result of this, and Vera quickly took advantage of the situation.
Marlon Vera applied ground-and-pound pressure, severing O’Malley with vicious elbows. The referee saw enough and broke up the bout because the downed O’Malley was unable to counter Vera’s attack. Afterwards, Marlon Vera prevailed via TKO.
Suga posted on his social media quoting, “ 6 years ago today I made my UFC debut. Still haven’t lost.”
When the two faced again in 2020, Vera handed O’Malley his lone defeat of his career. However, “Sugar” went on to assert that the seeming loss was all a part of his elaborate scheme to arrange a rematch in which the UFC bantamweight title was on the line.
“Chito” was supposed to face Henry Cejudo at UFC 292 but the former two-division champion pulled out due to a shoulder injury. Vera, on the other hand, won the main event and has stated that he wants to be the first opponent to challenge O’Malley for the title.
