Sean O’Malley earned the bantamweight crown by knocking out Aljamain Sterling in round two of the UFC 292 headliner.
Shutting off his critics in style, O’Malley instantly demanded to avenge his only career defeat against ‘Chito’ Vera during the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. The new UFC 135 lbs titlist called out Marlon Vera for a fight at UFC 296.
‘Sugar’ said, “Did ‘Chito Win?”
“Was it boring? Probably.”
“I will whoop Chito’s a** in December in Vegas at T-Mobile. Let’s fuc**ng go baby.”
Before Sean O’Malley shook the world at UFC 292 by beating Sterling, Marlon Vera earned a much-needed win against Pedro Munhoz in the main card. Hence, ‘Chito’ is back on win track after the loss against Cory Sandhagen in March 2023.
Marlon Vera handed Sean O’Malley his only career defeat at UFC 252 Miocic vs Cormier 3 in August 2020. ‘Sugar’ seemingly misplanted his leg and suffered an ankle injury, letting off Marlon Vera hit him with elbows.
Although Sean O’Malley lost the fight via TKO, he never considered it to be his legitimate loss. Now that he holds the UFC bantamweight title, a rematch against ‘Chito’ Vera will be interesting.

Per the current UFC rankings, Petr Yan, Cory Sandhagen, Merab Dvalishvili are ahead of ‘Chito Vera’. Besides, Aljamain Sterling is a reputed champion with successful title defenses against Cejudo, Yan, and Dillashaw. So, he can also earn an immediate shot at the lost belt.
Can Sean O’Malley Share The UFC 296 Card With Conor McGregor?
Conor McGregor teased his return in December against Michael Chandler during the Anthony Joshua vs Robert Helenius fight. The UFC star outlined his three-fight plan, starting off with Chandler at UFC 296. He future named Justin Gaethje and Nate Diaz as two more potential opponents for the future.
Meanwhile, UFC 296 will be the last Pay-Per-View of 2023 and Conor McGregor is yet to be enlisted in USADA testing pool. Dana White has claimed to be working on McGregor vs Chandler, which he expects to be happening in early 2024.
So, Sean O’Malley and Conor McGregor don’t look likely to share the UFC 296 card at this point.
