The card promoted some of the most exponential fights. The organisation made its third trip to Salt Lake City for the event, but it hadn’t been there since UFC 278 in August 2022. The main event was a lightweight rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, the former interim UFC Lightweight Champions.

There’s a good reason why Justin Gaethje has been dubbed “The Highlight” for so long. He now appears to be one victory away from being referred to as the lightweight title following Saturday’s knockout of Dustin Poirier in their rematch at UFC 291.

There were in total 4 KO’s that took place in UFC 291

  1. Justin Gaethje def. Dustin Poirier via second-round knockout (head kick)
  2. Derrick Lewis def. Marcos Rogerio de Lima via first-round TKO (punches)
  3. Roman Kopylov def. Claudio Ribeiro via second-round knockout (head kick)
  4. Uros Medic def. Matthew Semelsberger via third-round TKO (punches)

Justin Gaethje def. Dustin Poirier via second-round knockout (head kick): After delivering possibly the knockout of the year with a powerful head kick to finish Dustin Poirier in the UFC 291 main event, Justin Gaethje earned his comeuppance and a “BMF” title belt.

After a competitive first round, Gaethje used his punches to bait Poirier in the second round, setting up the head kick. Poirier was knocked to the ground as soon as Gaethje’s shin made contact, and the fight was quickly stopped by referee Herb Dean before any more harm could be done.

Derrick Lewis def. Marcos Rogerio de Lima via first-round TKO (punches): Lewis, the all-time leader in UFC history for knockouts, ended a three-fight losing run on Saturday with a finish of Marcos Rogerio de Lima (21-9-1) that belongs near the top of “The Black Beast’s” career highlight reel.

The 38-year-old fan favourite should have enough fights left on his current UFC contract after his first-round TKO victory at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City.

Roman Kopylov def. Claudio Ribeiro via second-round knockout (head kick): At 0:33 in Round 2, Kopylov (11-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) knocked out Claudio Ribeiro (11-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) with a head kick, which was the most brutal knockout of the evening so far. A left high kick and a lone follow-up hammer fist were used to finish.

Uros Medic def. Matthew Semelsberger via third-round TKO (punches): After two and a half rounds of back-and-forth combat between Uros Medic and Matthew Semelsberger, a spinning back elbow proved to be the decisive blow.

Each man shocked the other before Medic’s finishing move. After being violently combined with in Round 2, Medic was knocked out and afterwards injured Semelsberger with an upkick. The last strikes were delivered by Medic halfway through Round 3, despite numerous momentum changes. Semelsberger was knocked down with a Medic spinning back elbow after being knocked back by a punching combo.

Until the referee intervened, Medic pounced and unleashed a barrage of ground and pound.
