UFC 264 Live – Conor McGregor beaten by Dustin Poirier: The latest bout marked their third meeting, with McGregor having knocked out Poirier in the first round whey they fought at featherwight in 2014.

Post this American took his revenge this January by beating McGregor via knockout for the first time in his career – this bout in Abu Dhabi had ended in 2nd round.

UFC 264 Live – Today at Las Vegas as well the bout ended early which no one had expected. The trilogy came to a close after McGregor lost to Poirier via doctor stoppage, with the Irishman unable to continue after sustaining an ankle injury at the end of the first round.

McGregor, 32, was stopped in the closing seconds of the first round against former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier. Replays showed his ankle rolling over as he stepped backwards and the fight was stopped by doctors.

“This is not over,” McGregor said.

“If I have to take it outside, let’s take it outside,” he added as he was interviewed while sat on the canvas with his ankle strapped in a protective case, before being taken out of the ring on a stretcher.

UFC president Dana White said after the fight that McGregor had broken “the lower tibia in his left shin”.

Poirier vs McGregor History: Both Poirier and McGregor picked up a knockout win over the other in the first two meetings, Poirier (27-6 MMA, 19-5 UFC) and McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) meet in the definitive rubber match to close out the biggest UFC card of the year so far.

 

Poirier is currently tied for the most knockout wins in the history of the weight class, one of which came against McGregor in their anticipated rematch at UFC 257 in January.
