It is extremely uncommon for defendants in Romania who are being held in preventive arrest for major offences to request that they be allowed to post bail. Requests to be placed under additional judicial conditions, such as home arrest or geographical limits, are becoming increasingly popular. The decision of the court comes after the Tate brothers were unsuccessful in their appeal against a judge’s ruling on February 21 that would extend their arrest for a third time for an additional 30 days. It was the third separate appeal they had made against decisions to extend their custody while investigations continued, and all three of those appeals were denied.

In a document submitted to the court in January to explain a prior arrest extension, it was highlighted that “the prospect of them fleeing investigations cannot be overlooked.” The document further stated that they could “leave Romania and live in countries that do not allow extradition.” At the very least, Tate will continue to be held in detention until the 29th of March.

On Andrew Tate’s Twitter account, there was a tweet that read, “If you want a life others will aspire for, you’ll need to be prepared to defend it.” This post was published prior to the judgement that the court issued on Tuesday.

Andrew Tate has claimed on multiple occasions that the prosecutors in Romania do not have any evidence and that their case is a “political” scheme designed to keep him quiet.
