Alexa Grasso vs Valentina Shevchenko First Fight Recap

Shevchenko and Grasso started the fight in fifth gear. Both fighters landed a good number of significant strikes. However, Grasso surprised Shevchenko by fighting in a southpaw stance. Although she usually fights in an orthodox stance, she switched and enjoyed a lot of success, landing several hard punches on Shevchenko. As a result, the Mexican took the first round.

However, Shevchenko came back stronger in the second and third. The former champion realized she had to use her grappling. And she did that to great effect. Every time Grasso came in range, Shevchenko shot for a takedown and she enjoyed a lot of ground control in the second and third rounds. Although Grasso landed some heavy blows, Shevchenko won the second and third rounds.

The fourth round brought more entertainment. Grasso was now vary of the takedowns and knew she had to stop them. She did her best to avoid them and even got one of her own. Despite this, Shevchenko was edging the fourth round as well.

However, with one minute to go, ‘Bullet Valentina’ threw a spinning back kick. Grasso dodged the kick and grabbed Shevchenko’s back in a split second. She then managed to get a rear naked choke hold and made it count. Despite Shevchenko’s best efforts, Grasso held on tight, eventually getting the tap.

Although all indications suggest that McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) must first re-enter the USADA testing programme, which necessitates two clean tests spread over six months, before stepping into the cage, he still lists Dec. 16 as the target date for his next bout.

Since The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 31’s premiere broadcast, McGregor has been on-and-off about a fight with Michael Chandler. The fact that the show was on everyone’s mind at the beginning made it very heated, but as the weeks passed, the Irish superstar changed his mind (a few times), and most recently, he wanted to combat the new “BMF.”

The UFC’s president, Dana White, told fight fans earlier this week that McGregor will definitely face Chandler next.

That was confirmed by McGregor during the same interview.
