Video shows Alexander Volkanovski training hard with Israel Adesanya for UFC 290
The Australian champion shared a video of his training on his official YouTube channel. The session was, what his team call, a fight simulator. In this routine, Volkanovski has three different situations. He first hits pads, then gets into striking, and then grappling.
Volkanovski will do this without a break for a set number of rounds. At the end of the session, the Australian looked drained. However, he spoke about the importance of such a session. He said, “As you can see, I got f**king Craig Jones, obviously a lot bigger than me, doing the wrestling and grappling.”
Volkanovski then added, “And then I got, you know, one of the best strikers in the world doing the kickboxing with me, the middleweight champ. So… then, good Joe doing the pads. So while I’m just getting absolutely cooked by everyone, I got some of the best in the world putting me through the paces.”
These comments from Volkanovski show that despite the struggle, it is all worth it, given the quality of his training partners. Not everyone is lucky enough to have the grappling skills of Craig Jones and the striking of Israel Adesanya in their camp.
What do you make of Alexander Volkanovski’s training? Do you think it will be enough to nullify Yair Rodriguez’s unique style at UFC 290?
