Dustin Poirier losses in the UFC

Dustin Poirier vs Chan Sung Jung

Poirier’s first defeat in the UFC came against The Korean Zombie. The two faced each other back in 2012 as the main event of a UFC on Fuel TV card. And although Poirier came off an impressive win against Max Holloway in his last fight, the Korean Zombie dominated him. Poirier managed to have some success. However, it was nothing significant. Eventually, in the fourth round, Jung got a D’Arce choke, which ended the fight.

Dustin Poirier vs Cub Swanson

‘The Diamond’ tasted defeat for the second time two fights later. This time it came against Cub Swanson in 2013. After three really close rounds and entertaining action, Swanson took home the unanimous decision win. Despite Poirier’s best efforts, he couldn’t swing the fight in his favor.

Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor

After his defeat to Swanson, Poirier gained some momentum by winning a few fights. However, he then tasted defeat at the hands of McGregor. The two competed in a high-octane fight in 2015. And after a lot of trash talk and hype in the build-up, McGregor showed his class with an incredible first-round knockout win.

Dustin Poirier vs Michael Johnson

After his loss to McGregor, Poirier moved up to lightweight. Initially, ‘The Diamond’ enjoyed some success. However, he tasted defeat yet again when he faced Michael Johnson in 2016. Yet again, Poirier failed to start on the front foot. And he paid for it with another TKO loss. Despite going into the fight as the favorite, Poirier lost in the first round.

Dustin Poirier vs Khabib Nurmagomedov

Poirier’s loss to Johnson brought about a changed fighter. ‘The Diamond’ then went on a six-fight unbeaten streak and captured the UFC lightweight interim title. However, he then had the daunting task of defending his title against Khabib Nurmagomedov. After three tough rounds, where Khabib dominated, the Russian finished Poirier off with a rear-naked choke.

Dustin Poirier vs Charles Oliveira

Poirier’s most recent loss was another title bout. This time it was against Brazilian Charles Oliveira. After an incredible first round, where Poirier rocked Oliveira a few times, many expected the American to finish it in the second. However, Oliveira came back stronger and put the pressure back on Poirier. Eventually, the Brazilian got Poirier’s back, and it was game over. Just like in the Khabib Nurmagomedov fight, Poirier lost by a rear-naked choke.

So there you have it. These are the six times Dustin Poirier lost in the UFC. What do you think will happen at UFC 291 against Justin Gaethje?
