The incident happened in Solihull, West Midlands, in the UK. 56-year-old reality TV star David Pugh fought off a gang of five machete-wielding robbers in his house to prevent them from stealing anything. And although the event is just gaining popularity, it happened back in 2018.

Pugh, who is a Krav Maga-trained fighter, heard a loud bang at around 3 AM. He went down to inspect what had happened and found five robbers demanding money. Knowing that his wife and child were in the house, Pugh says his instincts took over, and he fought the robbers.

And although he succeeded, the ordeal left Pugh with several injuries, a broken nose, and a damaged house. In addition, the robbers also hurt his Rottweiler during the attempted robbery. Despite all this, Pugh was grateful for the safety of his family.

David Pugh talks about fighting off 5 machete armed robbers

The Englishman showed why learning martial arts could be the best thing in the world. Especially in the world we live in today. And Pugh spoke to the media about the event and described the ordeal from his perspective.

Pugh said, “By the time I got out of bed, totally naked, I was approaching the door and it was kicked in. It went with a right smash and there were four or five guys on the landing in balaclavas. The men kept shouting ‘where’s the money, give us your money?’”

The Englishman then added, “I grabbed the first couple I could, it turned into a brawl and a battle. I just grabbed what I could and hit them with aftershave bottles and chairs. I was getting hit repeatedly on the head – they had machetes, a baseball bat, and a golf club. I was desperately trying to get to my daughter’s room. but I had so many splits to my head, I was drenched in blood.”

Therefore, these comments give a brief idea of how scary the situation was. However, thanks to his MMA training and natural instincts, Pugh’s bravery saved his family. He then said the robbers left without anything, thinking they had half killed him. Thus, they fled the scene.

So while the debate continues about the dangers and effects of combat sports, here is yet another example of how combat sports can also save lives.
