Garry and Edwards compete in the same weight class. However, Edwards is the champion and Garry is the number 11 ranked fighter. And ahead of competing on the same card, Garry took to social media to share a video of his training with Edwards.
The Irishman posted a video and captioned it with, “Learning from the best.” In the video, we can see Garry working on his grappling and level changes with Edwards’ brother, Fabian, while Leon gives advice. And if the end of the video is anything to go by, it looked like the workout took a lot out of Garry.
It is no surprise that Garry is working on his grappling. The Irishman prefers to stand and strike rather than grapple. And while he lands an incredible 6.6 significant strikes per minute, he gets less than a takedown per fifteen minutes.
In addition, his opponent, Vicente Luque, is a better grappler and has eight submission wins compared to Garry’s one. Therefore, the Irishman is preparing for a grappling-heavy approach from the Brazilian. Moreover, Garry’s addition to Edwards’ team will allow the Englishman to train with a high-level striker and prepare for Covington’s unrelenting attacks.
So there you have it. It looks like Ian Garry and Leon Edwards are teaming up ahead of UFC 296. Do you think it will help Garry beat Luque?
