Jorge Masvidal Pleads Guilty Against Former UFC Friend Colby Covington

In a case pertaining to an alleged assault on his former buddy and UFC competitor Colby Covington in March 2022, Jorge Masvidal entered a guilty plea on Monday to a misdemeanor battery charge, as verified on Instagram by Masvidal’s lawyer Bradford Cohen.

As part of a plea agreement, Masvidal’s two felony charges—one for criminal mischief and the other for aggravated battery—were dismissed. Masvidal was given a term of time served, which included several hours in jail and several court appearances over the previous 20 months, as well as court expenses.

Masvidal wrote, “Victory Monday!” under a video that he uploaded on Instagram.

Insidesport

Masvidal was charged with hitting Covington twice on March 21, 2022, outside of a steakhouse in Miami Beach. A little over two weeks had passed since Covington defeated Masvidal in a UFC fight that had a heated build-up and trash talk in which Masvidal took offense at remarks Covington made about his children. Before their acrimonious breakup, Masvidal and Covington were closest friends and housemates.

According to the police report, Covington had a chipped or broken tooth. However, he later told the court that the strikes had caused a brain damage.

Masvidal, 38, left the UFC in April following a number of years as one of the organization’s biggest stars. He stated to ESPN last month that he intended to compete in boxing again in the early months of 2024.
