Jon Jones was supposed to defend his title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 this past Saturday, but while training, he tore a pectoral tendon off its bone. According to UFC President Dana White, the injury necessitates surgery, and an eight-month absence is anticipated. After which Tom Aspinall made his call to remove the heavyweight champion from his Title.
Tom Aspinall believes Jon Jones should be stripped of the UFC interim heavyweight title as he recovers from a ruptured pectoral tendon.
Aspinall is looking for a chance to face Miocic right away and then wants to face Jones.
Why Does Jon Jones Terms Tom Aspinall’s Request “Hilarious”?
UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has finally reacted to Tom Aspinall, however, it took some time.
Arguably the greatest fighter in MMA history, Jones responded to Aspinall’s request on Monday night on X (formerly Twitter) by demanding that the UFC take away Jones’ title belt, elevate him to the position of undisputed champion, and have him defend it against Stipe Miocic while Jones is still sidelined due to injury.
Finding Tom Apinall’s claims hilarious Jon Jones said:
“Now I have newcomers requesting I get my championship stripped. Zero wins over legends, zero title defenses and already thinking you can call the shots to Dana, that’s hilarious. In my 15-year career, I have seen so many guys who are supposed to be the next big thing. There’s ever only been one Jon Jones, never forget that.”
Jones was expected to make a comeback on November 11 in the main event of UFC 295, having defeated Ciryl Gane in March to win the vacant UFC heavyweight title. But Jones tore his pectoral muscle during training, forcing him to withdraw two weeks prior to his title match against Miocic.
In retaliation, the UFC scheduled a temporary championship match between Sergei Pavlovich and Aspinall, which Aspinall prevailed over via first-round knockout.
