Khamzat Chimaev merely has any experience at 185 lbs and hasn’t fought any top-rated middleweight yet. However, that hasn’t stopped him from calling out Izzy. In response, Adesanya’s head coach, Eugene Bareman, connected with Submission Radio and explained why Chimaev shall need to work his way to grab the title shot.

Bareman said, “Has Khamzat [Chimaev] fought at middleweight yet? Like we can’t be ridiculous. This is the most prestigious title in the sport. Okay, and at times, business takes precedent. I understand that but you are going to give a guy a title shot.”

“Like you are devaluing the organization, you are devaluing the sport. You are devaluing everything that we have stood for in terms of the middleweight title and what we have done and what Anderson’s done.”

Khamzat Chimaev is 6-0 in the UFC and 12-0 as a professional MMA fighter. He has already been relevant in the welterweight division, with consecutive wins against Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland in his last two.

Chimaev can earn a title shot at 170 lbs faster than that at 185 lbs. That said, he failed to make weight in his last fight against Nate Diaz and was forced to get his opponent changed in Holland. So, the 170 lbs weight limit can be a problem for ‘Borz’.

Israel Adesanya can move up to light heavyweight division and fight Jamahal Hill next

He said, “I am not arguing against fighting Khamzat. I think Khamzat would be a great fight. He is a big name. He is a challenge and we are all about challenges.”

Chimaev is currently ranked third at 170 lbs and shall earn a shot at the gold after attaining one or two more wins. Hence, Israel Adesanya should remain out of his radar for some time. Moreover, Eugene Bareman has cited Adesanya’s chances of moving up to the light heavyweight category and challenging Jamahal Hill for the belt.
