Israel Adesanya Next Fight: Chael Sonnen Analyze Who Would Izzy Fight Next
Sonnen has weighed in on the discussion surrounding Adesanya’s next opponent, as there are many potential candidates being considered for the highly anticipated fight scheduled for the end of the summer. Talking about that he stated, “It would happen against Duplessis, I told you guys and laid out my whole case. Highest ranked guy that hasn’t had the opportunity. But it didn’t happen, he goes with Whitaker.”
He added, “The only other guy without a partner would be Strickland who is coming off a loss. I don’t agree with the loss, I don’t agree with the judges. He is not getting the fight okay. There is one other guy with one name left and that’s Jan Blahowitz who took to Twitter who’s already got a win over Izzy. Said I gave you a shot at mine. I’d like a shot at yours and I’ll come to your weight class.”
According to Sonnen, the options for Adesanya’s next opponent are quite limited, with Duplessis already scheduled to face Whitaker and Strickland coming off a recent loss. While Paulo Costa and Chimaev were once considered possible matchups, they are no longer in the running. As a result, it appears that Blachowicz could be the most likely contender.
However, Sonnen has revealed that there may be more to the story. Apparently, Costa has expressed interest in facing Blachowicz at 205lbs, and UFC has informed him that a victory over Blachowicz would require him to remain in that weight class. This indicates that Blachowicz is unlikely to move down a weight class to face Adesanya.
Furthermore, Sonnen noted that Adesanya is known for his open communication and if he had plans to fight at the end of the summer, he would have likely informed him. However, since no such communication has taken place, it seems that Adesanya has not yet decided on his next opponent and is keeping his options open.
