Despite beating Israel Adesanya via TKO, UFC champion Alex Pereira is yet to earn Chael Sonnen’s respect. It seems ‘The American Gangster’ has found numerous flaws in Pereira’s game and foresees several scenarios where ‘Poatan’ can lose his middleweight belt.
The Israel Adesanya loss at UFC 281 has urged several combat experts to pour their opinions. Meanwhile, Chael Sonnen also dived into the debate and tagged Alex Pereira ‘the worst middleweight champion’ of all time. He further picked non-UFC fighter Bo Nickal to beat Pereira if given a chance. For UFC News updates with InsideSport.IN
Speaking through his YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen said, “Alex Pereira is the worst middleweight champion of all time. That’s the claim, now you need supporting evidence. The evidence is that he’s the champion of the world and Bo Nickal could beat him and Bo Nickal has never even fought in the UFC before.”
“That’s the statement. There it is. Boom. It would appear that if you were good at wrestling, that you could take him down. It would appear that. Now, we haven’t seen that. Like, we don’t actually have evidence of that.”
“We saw Pereira on bottom after a scramble. There was a takedown attempt initiated by him. Izzy flipped his hips and came out on top. How sure are you really that this is the worst ever?”
Alex Pereira, however, seems unbothered by his critics. He has recently inked the UFC belt on his arm and has even ridiculed Israel Adesanya for justifying the defeat with various circumstances. ‘Poatan’ was shaken by Israel Adesanya in the first round of the fight. ‘Izzy’ then dominated Alex Pereira for the rest of the night before falling prey to the Brazilian’s top-tier striking skills.

Having defended the 185 lbs strap five times since winning it in 2019, Adesanya deserves an immediate rematch. Furthermore, he is still the 1st ranked middleweight contender and a cash cow in the UFC. So, there’s no way Alex Pereira can avoid the rematch unless any mishap happens.
