“I knew Timur many, many years,” Makhachev said. “We trained together many times. He’s a hard worker and he really deserves to be in the UFC because he is a professional.”
Irrespective of Timur’s loss to Katona his friend Makhachev Islam wrote on twitter, “ Timur needs to be in UFC”.
On the reality show, both fighters initially competed for Michael Chandler’s team. However, before last night’s match, Katona, a product of the SBG Ireland camp, switched to Conor McGregor’s squad. The battle, which was touted as the bloodiest of this season of TUF so far, ultimately resulted in a split decision in Katona’s favour.
