With the Vacant lightweight belt at stake, several people backed Oliveira to regain it. Charles Oliveira is still the number-one ranked lightweight in the UFC and is one win far from calling a title shot. Meanwhile, 4th ranked Beneil Dariush can shatter the plans of Makhachev vs Oliveira 2 by beating Charles Oliveira in May.

The lightweight division is full of A-listed fighters and is arguably the most entertaining roster in the UFC. That said, Islam Makhachev currently reigns the category. It remains to be seen who can beat him in the UFC.

Islam Makhachev had a tough time against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284

On paper, Islam Makhachev beat Alexander Volkanovski via unanimous decision of 49-47, 49-47, and 49-46 at the main event of UFC 284 in Perth, Australia. Nevertheless, the in-cage clash was way more intense and competitive. Several people, including fighters, slammed the decision and tagged Alexander Volkanovski as the deserving winner.

Volkanovski looked brilliant in the fight and left his opponent with a bruised face. He clearly put more damage, which was effective, but Islam Makhachev dominated the fight per the professional rule set and managed to retain his belt.
