After taking a beating in a loss to Belal Muhammad earlier this year, UFC fighter Gilbert Burns promised to get back on track, and he’s already decided that he wants to face Colby Covington in 2024.
After healing from the horrific shoulder injury he suffered in May during a unanimous decision loss to Belal Muhammad, Gilbert Burns is preparing for his comeback to the UFC. He listed Colby Covington as his ideal opponent going forward, but that fight probably won’t happen until March or April of next year.
UFC To See Gilbert Burns In Action Inside The Octagon Again
Following a serious injury to his shoulder, the UFC welterweight contender is eager to go back into the octagon and is back in training. Burns (22-6 MMA, 15-6 UFC) hasn’t competed since May, when he was defeated by Belal Muhammad via unanimous decision at UFC 88. Burns appeared to be seriously injured throughout the battle since he was mostly using his right arm to strike and was hardly using his left arm at all.
Gilbert Burns ultimately suffered serious damage to his shoulder, but he was lucky to be able to forego surgery and heal fully.
Gilburt Burns mentioned on his possible return, the next year:
“I’m 100 percent and back to training,” Burns told MMA Junkie. “I’m in no pain and injury-free. I didn’t get surgery. I almost did. My ligament was barely hanging on my shoulder. My deltoid and my AC joint were very compromised, so I had to rest a lot. I couldn’t do anything for like three months, and then I started my (physical therapy), and then I put a couple of stem cells, and now I’m back to training.”
The Brazilian hopes to return in the first half of 2024 now that he is fit. His goals are UFC 300 in April or UFC 299 in March.
