The best mixed martial artist of all time is Jon Jones. Case resolved. The case cannot be reopened for at least five years since it will take that long to recognise another boxer who is making an effort to overtake Jones’ achievements.
After taking over the light heavyweight division from 2008 till his retirement in 2020, Jones took a three-year break before making a triumphant comeback to destroy Ciryl Gane and win the UFC heavyweight title. He hasn’t yet lost an MMA bout via knockout, submission, or decision to any opponent. And Jon Jones’ winning tactics are the only thing that hasn’t changed in a sport that is so wildly unpredictable.

Is Jon Jones Hanging Up Gloves After UFC 295 Against Stipe Miocic?
The next fight for Jon Jones, who ended a three-year layoff at UFC 285, could be his final one as a mixed martial artist.
In an interview with Fox Sports Australia, Jones stated that his current strategy “is to have one more big fight against Stipe Miocic” and then leave.
“I think the Stipe fight will be plenty for me. I feel like I don’t really have much to prove after beating Stipe Miocic. I’ve been in the game a long time and in fighter years, I’m an old guy. I’ve been training for a long time, I’ve been in the game for a long time and got some small injuries–I just really want to be around. Be around for my family, be around for my kids. I want to be able to play with my kids, and have a good head on my shoulders, and have joints that work. So I can see it coming to an end really soon, and I’m happy with that. I’m really proud of my career.”
Jones did say that it “would be worth entertaining not retiring” to take on that challenge if Francis Ngannou rejoins the UFC. Another bout against Sergei Pavlovich was similarly disregarded by him because, while being a “huge challenge,” “no one knows who he is.”
