UFC Superstar Sean Strickland says NFL money would make foreign fighters title less

In UFC, Sean Strickland, an elite American fighter, has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the biggest promotion company. His recent triumph at UFC Vegas 76 has further cemented his reputation among the top tier in the sport. Yet, it’s not just his in-ring abilities that have the spotlight shining on him. With his penchant for contentious statements and witty remarks, he once again has the internet buzzing and engaged in another fervent debate.

Following his recent victory, Strickland made a guest appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, engaging in a captivating conversation that fans had eagerly awaited. During their exchange, he shared his belief that the influx of NFL money could potentially leave foreign fighters without a title, as he predicted a surge of dominance from American fighters if it would happen. In his words, “If there was NFL money in the UFC, we (Americans) would dominate the UFC. There would not be one fu**ing foreign champion.”

Starting out in the UFC can be tough for fighters, as they often receive relatively low contracts which is like $10K. Which might not be enough to cover living expenses in the US. This is why fighters from countries with lower costs of living, like Brazil and Dagestan, might find these contracts more manageable.

On the other hand, American fighters face the challenge of coping with higher living expenses and may see better financial prospects in other sports like the NFL. The disparity in financial opportunities can indeed be a significant factor in fighters’ career choices and their pursuit of success in the UFC.

While Strickland shared his perspective, it’s essential to remember that fighters require more than just monetary incentives; their training and years of dedication play a crucial role, making his statement not entirely accurate. Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski are great examples of it.
