This weekend, Jiri Prochazka will challenge Alex Pereira for the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship. Either Jon Jones or Daniel Cormier held the UFC 205-pound title for the greater part of a decade. But since 2019, there have been four different division winners, and Alex Pereira, who is waiting for his opportunity this weekend, may be the fifth.
He won the first fight at 205 pounds against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291. This will be his second fight at 205 pounds. For “BJP,” he has previously competed here and won. After winning his first two fights via spectacular knockouts, “BJP” was given the opportunity to defend his championship at UFC 275 in Singapore.

Why did Jiri Prochazka vacate his UFC Light Heavyweight Title?
Glover Teixeira, a legend, faced up against Prochazka for the championship. Going into the last round, he was behind on every scorecard. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the bout, Prochazka won via submission to take the light heavyweight title and become the world champion. It was a very crazy ending to the battle.
Regretfully, he was unable to retain the belt for very long. Prochazka was set for a rematch with Texeira at UFC 282 in December 2022, not long after earning the championship. He would miss six months of action as a result of a serious shoulder injury that forced him to withdraw from the bout.
Prochazka then decided that he did not want to delay the division, thus he gave up the championship. His manager claims that he made the decision on his own initiative and that the UFC did not coerce him.
Ironically, Prochazka is now competing for the title that a champion who is sidelined by a protracted injury left vacant. “BJP” has the opportunity to win the UFC light heavyweight title twice by defeating Pereira. Achieved by only the likes of Jon Jones and Randy Couture.
