The Brazilian has made it obvious that he won’t be prepared to face Makhachev at UFC 294, which is scheduled to take place on October 21, 2023, at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, according to a recent report from combat sports journalist Aaron Bronsteter.

Although it appears that Charles Oliveira is almost certain to face lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in a title rematch at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in October, he has admitted the Middle Eastern turnaround is “too soon” for him and is considering a fight in either November or December instead.

Currently listed as the top lightweight contender, Oliveira most recently competed in the co-main event of UFC 289 in Vancouver, Canada, back in June. There, he appeared to earn a rematch with the champion against Russian finisher Makhachev by ending Beneil Dariush’s run with a first-round TKO victory.

Oliveira and Makhachev previously fought in the main event of UFC 280 in October of last year, and in their bout for the vacant title, Makhachev submitted Oliveira with an arm-triangle submission, ending Oliveira’s division-best 12-fight winning streak.

When asked if he would be willing to hold off on a title fight in the future, Oliveira emphasised that he would be prepared to compete at the end of the year.

Islam Makhachev’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, responded to Bronsteter’s tweet by confirming that Makhachev will actually take part in the UFC 294 event.
