Following the news that the celebrated Irish singer Sinead O’Connor had gone away at the age of 56, Conor McGregor has taken the lead in paying respect to her.
When O’Connor first won the world championship at UFC 189, the promotion broke with precedent by allowing live performances for the main event, and O’Connor joined the UFC legend for his ring walk. It was never permitted before, and UFC president Dana White hasn’t permitted it since, which makes her rendition of “The Foggy Dew” much more meaningful to the Irishman.

Her family and friends are inconsolable and have asked for privacy during this extremely trying time. McGregor’s one-word tweet on the subject was “gutted,” and that was all it said.
“I love Sinead O’Connor, I’m a big fan of Sinead, she is a passionate woman, her voice is – she has a beautiful voice and it’s eerily symbolic of war,” the Irishman told the reporters prior to his battle at UFC 189. So he has been coming out to Sinead for as long as my career, and now that they get to do it live, so it’s going to be an amazing occasion.
