Francis Ngannou, a former heavyweight champion of the UFC, has described how he wound up in the PFL. Since his victory over Ciryl Gane in January of last year, “The Predator” has been out of the ring for well over a year. Francis Ngannou’s contract had expired after that fight, and he was afterwards a free agent. He quickly entered negotiations with the PFL, Bellator, the ONE Championship, and professional boxers.
Francis Ngannou received the agreement he sought in the boxing world and will take on Tyson Fury in October. Since signing with the PFL in May, his contract hasn’t been much in the news. The former UFC champion went into further detail about his free agency process on The Joe Rogan Experience.

After negotiations with the UFC were over, Francis Ngannou claims he waited a bit before approaching any promoters. He later heard from the PFL, who were prepared to give him whatever he asked for and more. While meeting with Chatri Sityodtong of ONE was enjoyable, he continued, that the contracts were like “Day and Night.”
“A couple days after [my first meeting with the PFL], they made a proposal,” Francis Ngannou stated regarding his free agency process in an interview with Joe Rogan. “When he made the structure of the proposal, I looked at it and thought it was good. You know, everything was being taken into consideration. There’s always going to be ways to negotiate in a contract. But the way they structured it, I was already happy… But we kept that contract, at that time I was like, ‘Why rush into anything, take some time’, no, I didn’t sign.”
He continued, “Then, we got to Chatri. Chatri reached out, we talked, same thing. A couple of days [go by] and they send their own contract. But, when I was putting the contract next to the PFL one, it was day and night… Yeah, [the PFL’s was better].”
