Former UFC flyweight contender Taila Santos has officially parted ways with the organization. Multiple sources have confirmed that Santos has been released from her contract with the UFC, marking the end of her tenure with Dana White’s promotion. Santos gained attention in the UFC flyweight division with a string of impressive victories over notable opponents.
UFC Title Contender Taila Santos Leaves the Organization
Over a span of 14 months, she secured wins against Molly McCann, Gillian Robertson, Roxanne Modafferi, and Joanne Wood, which ultimately earned her a shot at the flyweight championship.
In June 2022, Santos faced off against the dominant champion Valentina Shevchenko in a highly anticipated title bout.
The fight was closely contested and ended in a split decision in favor of Shevchenko. Although Santos fell short in her bid to capture the title, her performance showcased her skill and tenacity inside the octagon.
Unfortunately, Santos experienced a setback in her most recent fight against Erin Blanchfield in August. The bout was initially scheduled for February but had to be postponed when Santos decided to withdraw.
The reason for her withdrawal was the repeated visa denials faced by both of her cornermen, one of whom was her husband, preventing them from entering the United States for the fight.
With her release from the UFC, Santos concludes her stint with a company record of 4-3. Her UFC journey began in 2018 when she signed via Dana White’s Contender Series, and she amassed an impressive overall professional MMA record of 19-3.
