Former UFC Double Champion Tells How ‘Slower’ Jon Jones Lose Against Stipe Miocic: UFC News: Stipe Miocic vs. Jon Jones will be the main event of UFC 295 on November 11. The former Olympian feels that Miocic’s quickness will be the contest’s deciding element. He continued by saying that the former heavyweight champion is naturally speedier than his opponent for the weight class.

While Miocic hasn’t been seen since 2021, when he lost his title to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260, Jones, who made his heavyweight debut in March, dispatched Ciryl Gane easily to win the vacant crown. When Jones defeated Gane, he immediately started campaigning for a matchup with Miocic, who is regarded as the best UFC heavyweight champion of all time.

Cormier thinks the start of the bout versus Jones likely foreshadows the final result since he understands that Miocic’s nearly three-year hiatus could be an issue.

“I think Miocic needs to be in shape, he needs to be fast and he needs to be present… (At heavyweight) what we already know is that we do get a little bit slower version of Jon Jones. He is a bit different than he was a light heavyweight… because the left hand he threw that ultimately lead to the takedown (in the Ciryl Gane fight) was a lot slower.  He even admits it — he goes ‘I gained 30 pounds, of course I’m going to be slower.’ But if Miocic is fast, if Miocic with his boxing background, Golden Gloves, is still fast, that could give Jones problems.”

Cormier recognised Jones’ talent right away after spending more than 30 minutes in the cage with him, but he didn’t attribute his ability to land a takedown or land strikes to speed or power.

The same cannot be said of Miocic, who Cormier praises for exhibiting deceptive quickness and from whom he acquired this lesson in three battles.

Jones weighed 248 pounds when he stepped on the scale for his bout with Gane, and Cormier would like to see him lose a few pounds before their fight with Miocic.
