Talking exclusively with InsideSport, Somesh Kamra stated: “UFC is set to run an exclusive program for Indian fighters in the first quarter of 2024. We will take five fighters to go to Shanghai, where we’ll make them undergo a six-month-long program. Eventually, from there, we’ll advance those fighters either to the Dana White Contender Series or Road To UFC.”
According to Kamara, his job in the UFC is to pick and choose fighters perfect for the promotion. However, being the biggest promotion globally, after witnessing the success of the Indian star Anshul Jubli, many international agents started contacting the UFC and sent some fighters who are not yet at the required level. We’ve seen the results of that.
Consequently, he expressed disappointment with the company after the recent Road to UFC, where Indian fighters failed miserably. In response, the Indian UFC Panelist pitched the idea of starting a program for Indian fighters to take them to the UFC Performance Camp in Shanghai. Now, Dana White’s promotion is all set to take five fighters from India to train them for 6 months and then advance them to the next level.
